Physical description:
Roderich is rather short for a male, his height just barely bringing him an inch over that of the average female. It is not an overly distinct quality, but Roderich does not like it being mentioned. His face also has a beauty mark below his lips that he does not want noticed nor touched. To make up for the shortness and mole, he is always well-groomed. His skin is always clean and pale, his nails trimmed to a perfect aristocratic length, and his hair is always impeccably styled and placed. Much to his chagrin, he does have a single hair that always rebels and insists on sticking straight up. His clothes are also always carefully picked so as to make him look rich and fashionable, while his glasses are settled on his face to give him an air of intelligence.
Biology:
(Keep in mind that some liberties are taken since stories of this creature heavily contradict one another, even in appearance. Some stories say they look demonic, while others talk about how their wives are Alp...)

While some spirits are pleasant, Roderich most certainly is not. He is a Germanic nightmare-creating Alp, and those who have displeased him will certainly be visited in the long hours of the night. His powers as a spirit enable him to transform into a fine mist that can slip under bedroom doors or in through locks. From there, his misty form can approach a sleeping body and once inhaled, Roderich can control the dreams and nightmares of the victim.

Also, if he prefers, upon breaking into the room he can sit on his victim's chest, thus resulting in paralysis. From there, he can bite and drink blood from the victim, but Roderich rarely engages in the practice. He finds the concept of drinking the blood of strange creatures a disgusting and almost unpleasant thought. He especially fears that non-human blood may poison him.

Many Alp also store some powers in their hats. Roderich, however, stores them in a pair of fake glasses. The magical object enables the Alp to transform into small animals or turn invisible, but Roderich has been unable to master the power of transformation. He can turn invisible, but he finds it to be a rather useless talent, as the glasses always stay annoyingly visible.

On the plus side (for those tormented by Alps), his kind is very easy to rid oneself of. If a person blocks all the holes that a mist could slip through, he cannot enter a room. Also, he can easily be trapped in a room. He must exit the room the same way he came in, so if the exit is blocked after he sneaks in, he will be stuck. If being tormented by him, simply calling out his full name will force him to retreat.Of course, if he is already sitting on your chest, it is not possible to utter a sound. Even if you do force him to leave, he will probably return the next night in a foul mood. In that case, offering to serve him coffee, alcohol, or sweets in the morning will make him leave a victim alone.
Personality/Habits:
Roderich is a well-raised aristocrat. He was born into a rich and well-connected family. His upbringing made him a very polite and proper, if not arrogant, young man. However, concealed under a thin shell of politeness is a very short temper and this shell is easily destroyed in favour of undignified spluttering. Such destruction of personality is more easily achieved by men though, as he finds it hard to be overly cruel to women. Though, he is a bit of a push-over, thus his temper is easily calmed. He gets lonely and cannot risk truly pushing anyone away with anger. Roderich needs to please people, even if he refuses to admit it.

His morals could also be brought into question, much like his aristocratic facades, due to the use of his powers. He will not hesitate to cause horrifying nightmares night after night for mild annoyances. He rarely feels guilt for doing so either. They did something wrong, and he feels the ought to be punished.

Roderich also acts like a frugal prude. It is a bit deceiving, since through his years in school he has dated quite a few men and women, but he enjoys putting on the act. As for the frugality, it merely came with being rich. His parents taught him not to throw money around; otherwise they would end up destitute. He takes it to an extreme, refusing to throw away clothing that is practically in tatters.

The young Austrian also displays symptoms of OCD. Everything ought to be in its place and perfectly so. He cannot stand it when someone enters his room and has the audacity to move things around. He will spend hours cleaning and fixing things after he had a visitor. Despite this, he is rather lazy the rest of the time. He would much rather risk someone else doing things wrong than actually doing things himself. He will only fix their inevitable mistakes.
History:
Roderich was raised a normal human. In fact, he was a human for a sizable chunk of his life. He grew up in a rich household amongst a great number of other bothersome and loud siblings. He spent most of his days indoors, enjoying being home schooled and arrogantly avoiding other children his age. He did not go out of his way to bother anyone.

It turned out his siblings were not so peaceable. One of his many brothers decided to upset a witch and then pin the blame on him. He never found out what his brother did, but the witch was angry enough to curse him. He was turned into an Alp instead of one of his inferior brothers.

Roderich saw it more as a fortunate mistake. At first, it worked somewhat like a werewolf did. He had not control over his actions after nightfall, but over the years he started to wrestle control back. When he finally gained a basic, though iffy, control over his powers, his parents realized something was wrong in the family. All the children were being tormented in the night...Except for Roderich. They hired a witch, and she identified the problem as being an Alp—An Alp who doubled as their peaceful child.

His parents were quick to send him away, off to a school where they would never have to see him. Since then, Roderich has become somewhat peaceable again. His temper is still short, but he now saves the night terrors for only those who really upset him.
Other Information:
-Roderich is terrified of the ocean and sea creatures for reasons that he refuses to state.
-He secretly likes baking and sewing.
-Even if his glasses did not store any power, he would still wear them because he feels plain without them.
-He is often tired from being up all night.

On this particular evening, Austria lay gracefully across his plush Victorian fainting couch. His coffee table was a mess of sheet music, ancient and new, blank and filled, crumpled and perfect. The windows were open, letting a nice breeze tussle the papers about as the aristocrat worked. He was, at this moment in time, attempting to compose an angry piece of music to show Prussia just how upset he was about the fact that the hooligan ex-nation had vandalized a priceless painting with sharpies.

However, this particular endeavor did not seem to be going well. Not because he could not write any music, on the contrary, it was quite easy to express his feelings of rage. No, he instead wished for a cup of coffee. Good coffee. Specialty coffee. Perhaps a Mazagran or a Eiskaffee or a Mozart. They all sounded so delicious at the moment.

Roderich sighed. It would be such an effort to make it himself. He placed the sheets of music down and stared at his telephone. Would it really be easier to get someone else to do it? He could do it. Or he could to a cafe...but the waiters were always so snobby.

He sat up and grabbed the phone. “Hello? Hungary. Great. Can you come over and do me a favour...?”
