| ~ Belgium ~ Full name: Alice Peeters Age: 14 Hometown: Brussels, Belgium
Creature: Fox Spirit Favourite Subject: Home economics Extra Details: Enjoys fine art, folklore, making waffles and chocolate
Physical description: Alice is rarely seen wearing her short, wavy blonde hair up in a ponytail as she is conscious about her abnormally pointed ears; therefore it is left at its original length just above her wide shoulders. She likes to accessorise by keeping her curls back with a ribbon headband, that always matches her colourful dresses, and has a thin fringe cut untidily above large green eyes. Her hair would not be described as the most ‘neat’ or ‘tidy’, but somehow the odd haywire curls and unkempt fringe suit her bubbly personality.
Standing tall at a height of ‘5’6’, with many flattering curves and a large bust, at a first glance, Alice could easily be mistaken for a young woman. Although, she still enjoys wearing 'girly' attire and boots with plenty of lace are a favourite. Her skin is peachy in tone but she tans fairly easily to give off a golden glow.
Biology: What's the creature like? The fox spirits, also known as ‘Kitsune’ from Japan, are depicted in stories as intelligent beings that possess magical abilities that increase their age and wisdom, one of these abilities includes assuming a human form. They are known in folktales to be sly and enjoy tricking others, although other stories portray them as faithful guardians, friends, lovers and wives. According to legend, the more tails a kitsune has, the older, wiser and more powerful it is.
Kitsune are a type of spiritual enitity and there are two common classifications; good foxes and field foxes, one being benevolent and the other mischievous or even malicious. Alice would be a ‘ninko’; an invisible fox spirit that human beings can only perceive when it possesses them, although her personality alters between the other classifications.
Supernatural abilities include mouths or tails that generate fire or lightening, flight, invisibility and the creation of illusions so elaborate it is almost impossible to distinguish them from reality. Some tales depict these fox spirits with even greater powers, able to bend time and space, drive people mad or take fantastic shapes such as a tree of incredible height or a second moon in the sky.
As a requirement for a fox to carry out the transformation into a human, it must place reeds, a broad leaf or a skull over its head. This would be the same for transforming back into a fox, however if Alice experienced intense emotions such as fear, hatred or embarrassment in a short space of time, her body would automatically transform. Common forms assumed by fox spirits include beautiful women or young girls regardless of its age or gender, and a fox spirit can duplicate its appearance of a specific person. In some stories, they have difficulty hiding their tails when in human form; looking for the tail is a popular method of discerning the creature’s true nature. As well as this, the person may have fox-like traits, such as a coating of fine hair, a fox shaped shadow or a reflection that shows its true form. Kitsune are also known for having characteristics similar to those seen in vampires or succubi and feed on the life or spirit of human beings.
Personality/Habits: Alice is a good-natured, young girl known for constantly flashes her trademark ‘kitty smile’. Although she is mature, likes to act like an older sister and has a cheerful personality, she doesn’t stand out much due to the people she’s surrounded by. Her features are striking but her clothes are generally simple and not very conspicuous. Her selfless attitude leads to her often being pushed around by others, although she doesn’t seem to mind and is very tolerant with even the most unbearable characters. She’s the type of person who would offer help to anyone and everyone, be it random strangers or criminals.
A diligent hard-worker, Alice rarely complains seeing it only as a way to bring you down and she believes it’s possible to overcome any obstacle. Quite the optimistic, she only sees ‘the bright side’ of life and is fairly confident, as she knows how people like to be cheered up by her presence.
However, if she discovers something that grabs her interest such as a rare piece of gossip, she can become quite meddlesome and nosy. This could be because of her inner fox-like nature, and her curiosity gets the better of her sometimes. When angered, which is not often, Alice changes dramatically in personality; she becomes more intimidating, possessive and generally scary, especially around dogs as her fox spirit absolutely loathes them. In this state, her fox-like features are more obvious although these rare occasions never last long.
History: At the age of 5, Alice Peeters was possessed by a young fox spirit who was believed to be a descent of the famous medieval European hero: Reynard the Fox. As the spirit was only 50 years of age, it was just beginning to learn how to possess human beings, so all the previous attempts on humans had failed because of its lack of self-control.
Alice always had a special connection with animals; she would deliberately race out into her garden in her home in Belgium and be lost for hours playing with the neighbourhood creatures, she especially loved cats and foxes. At the bottom of her long garden there was a wooden gate that lead to her local park, however this gate had been forgotten for many years. It wasn’t until that eventful day that Alice decided to explore further into her garden, that she discovered it. Being the curious 5 year-old she was, Alice had crept through the back out into the park and immediately skipped off through the foliage after rabbits, birds and other wildlife.
The fox spirit happened to be passing through this particular park at this time, on its way north to find a more secluded place to practise its possession ability, and sensed Alice’s presence. It had been fairly hungry and wasted no time in possessing her for a quick feed. Instead of immediately rejecting the fox, as many other humans had done before, Alice allowed it entry and the spirit found it was able to control itself with her. The spirit then possessed her body and Alice became one with the Kitsune, just as she is to this day.
Her parents and older brother found her a short while later, playing in the park. When she shifted from a girl to a fox, they were dumbfounded and kept her ability hidden. There were rumours of the great ‘Reynard the Fox’ and after some intense research, her parents labelled her as a fox spirit. They were determined to try and bring her up as normally as possible, they only wanted her to live like any regular girl would, but once she reached her teens her transformations had become erratic and at the age of 14 they finally chose to send her to the Zodiac School.
Other Information: Once Alice gains her ninth tail, (she only has two at the moment) her fox form will change its fur to gold and she will be capable of many powerful abilities. As her spirit continues to evolve, her hair will gradually become more golden and her fox-like features more prominent, for example she will use her ‘kitty smile’ more often.
Role Play Sample: Clack. Clack. Clack. Thick black heels created symphonies with the polished surface as Alice Peeters strode down the school’s hallway. They were new shoes, intricately laced and ended a few centimetres before her knees, just the way she liked it. They made her feel bold, confident even, she felt like maybe this time she could make a serious impression so people would actually notice her, so she would stand out. Clack. Clack. Clack. A jade, floral dress swung elegantly in time with her footsteps, an amber ribbon tied round her waist for added style. It wasn’t the correct uniform but she felt more comfortable wearing this; save the sincere apologies for later. Left hand poised on a hip, the other reaching up to flip away at a strand of sandy coloured hair, her claws gliding through the wavy silk until the arm returned to swinging by her side. She resisted the urge to look at the crowds of students on either side of her vision, keeping her gaze focused on the long stretch that would lead to her first class. Clack. Clack. Clack. Inside she was a mess of emotions; was she going the right way? Would she be scolded for her outfit? What were the other students whispering about her? Why was she getting nervous? Did she belong here? But she maintained her composure, it would be highly embarrassing if she were to suddenly transform here. After tightening her amber headband, she began imagining all of the new adventures awaiting her, the new friends she was sure to make and the prospect of gaining another fox tail. Her cat-like smile widened, baring a set of small fangs. The class door was now visible and she could feel the excitement bubbling. Emerald eyes narrowed so only the entrance to the classroom was in her sights, and with her head held high, she crossed the distance with a new found sense of urgency. Clack. Clack. Taking a deep breath, Alice placed her steady hand on the door and pushed, the light blinding as she stepped in. She let the door close behind her. Click.
